The 2016 Forrest Ray 5K

The Library is gearing up for this year's Forrest Ray 5K, so be sure to come out and join us!


The 5K

This year's event will take place on Saturday, September 17th, 2016 at the main library downtown and will follow the route from our last year's 5k. The route can be viewed here.

Registration for the 5K will begin at 7:00 am on the day of the race, and the race itself will start at 8:00 am. You can also pre-register by visiting any of our library locations or signing up at the YMCA. You may also register online at strictlyrunning.com or by clicking here.

Pre-Registration Cost: $20.00

Day of Registration Cost: $25.00

 

The Man Behind the Annual Forrest Ray 5K

Forrest Arthur Ray was a beloved husband, family man, teacher, musician and tireless library supporter. He originated the idea of a 5k to help raise money to expand and renovate the Downtown and Wesmark branches of the Sumter County Library System. Forrest passed away after the first 5k held in 2006, and the event was named in his memory and honor in appreciation for his work on behalf of the Sumter County Library and its mission to serve all members of the community.
